8. What are your 2013 goals? Did you kill them? 

This year, NOVAtime went above and beyond to accomplish its goals.

SSAE16 SOC 1 Type II compliance: NOVAtime completed an in-depth SSAE 16 audit and was declared compliant in May 2013. The SSAE 16 SOC 1 Type II report indicates that our processes, procedures, and controls have been evaluated, tested, and approved by an independent accounting and auditing firm. Overall, this achievement is a strong indication that NOVAtime’s products are backed by high quality resources and services.

Technology: NOVAtime strives to remain up to date with technology trends. This year, we accomplished this goal with the release of NOVAtimeLive™ for Windows 8/RT. This application functions as an extension of the NOVAtime 4000 SaaS solution and offers mobility, a live dashboard, and real-time features. NOVAtimeLive™ also utilizes the convenience of live tiles that compliments the functionality of Windows 8 PCs and Windows RT tablets (e.g. Microsoft Surface).

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) support: The PPACA (or ACA) includes a “shared responsibility” provision, which requires businesses to provide health care coverage if certain qualifications are met. NOVAtime added a PPACA module that helps customers comply with the provision and avoid penalties.

Community involvement: In addition to contributing to business efficiency, NOVAtime contributes to community recovery and development by donating to disaster relief efforts and participating in local school initiatives.  As a notion of gratitude, we continue to offer aid to the community that has enabled NOVAtime to grow to what it is today.

2013 contributions –

  • Troy High School summer internship program – this past summer, NOVAtime hosted four student interns who gained hands-on experience across various departments.
  • Tzu Chi Free clinic – several NOVAtime employees volunteered at a free clinic in San Bernardino to help disadvantaged residents receive medical, dental, and vision care.
  • American Cancer Society – NOVAtime showed continued the support for the “Relay for Life” program by donating to the fundraiser.
  • Disaster relief – NOVAtime contributed donations to disaster relief efforts that were delivered to China following the earthquake in April and to the Philippines after typhoon Haiyan struck in November.
  • Overseas donations – NOVAtime donated computers to Collège Marie-Anne and Christ the King Secretarial School in Haiti.

9. Can you share some tips with our community?

Here at NOVAtime, we enjoy what we do, and we are very fortunate to have created products and services that generate revenue to support our passion for technology.  1. Can you tell us about your business?

  I help people buy a business, evaluate it, and also help people sell a business. 

 2. How is your business doing?

  Business is picking up after a hit from the recession.

 3. What gets you going?

  The sense of satisfaction of having helped another buyer along his journey into the business world or a seller into his retirement or orderly exit to other ventures.

 4. What are your products and services, and key benefits?

  Buyer advice-cash flows, valuation, buying strategy, seller advice-valuation, selling strategy, buyer questions. Sometimes I represent both sides for a win-win and educate both sides individually to reduce any disagreements. 

 5. Who are your customers?

  Currently many Subway franchise buyers and sellers.

 6. Can you share a brief success story?

  A client with two Subway stores got into a disagreement with Subway at a local level. He went into arbitration and would have lost both stores. I rescued him by guiding buyers through the approval process with several mishaps. The result was a salvaged $800,000.

  Another client in South Carolina was going through nasty a divorce. His wife’s valuation representative said their businesses were worth $80,000, however I said they were worth $1.5 million less the bank loan owed. The perplexed judge asked his own valuation representative what the value was. The result: $1.2 million. Vindication.

 7. How do you find new customers, or how do new customers find you? 

  Mostly by word of mouth and from my website.

 8. What is your business challenge? What do you need to overcome this?

  Getting fully paid by buyers for valuable advice I give them. They are the clients, and they need buyer education (why should a seller pay for buyer education via commission?). In order to overcome this, all parties would need more education about the buy/sell process and my role in this process.

 9. What are your 2013-2014 goals? Did you achieve them?

  To open a business or franchise buyer school. This is currently on hold.

 10. Can you share some tips with our community?

  1) Never argue about price at the first meeting between buyer and seller. 2) Make sure there is a valid reason for the sale of the business, like retirement, burnout after 20 years, divorce, partnership split, etc. 3) Get a second opinion and debate the pros and cons of the deal, deal structure, your goals and a valuation. 4) Sellers need to be realistic on price, terms and need to be transparent throughout the deal.

Gin Rummy, or simply gin, is a multi player card game created in 1909 by Elwood T. Baker and his son C. Graham Baker. Gin was a wildly popular game in the U.S., and is now coming back! Key reason for the revival has to do with the vision and hard work of John Hainline, and his wife and partner Lily Ann. John is considered as one of the best Gin Rummy players of all time! 1. What led you to start Gin Rummy Association? How is the progress?
 
Prior to starting the Gin Rummy Association, John played in most all of the Gin Rummy Tournaments across the country. In 1999 he gave an interview that was published in the Cigar Aficionado: The Gin Mill | Good Life Guide | Cigar Aficionado  Winner of more than 20 tournaments, and consistently in the top 10 of most events. John, with his wife and partner Lily Ann, decided to dedicate themselves to creating a new level of tournament excellence. Now with gin rummy being played on the Internet, and more and more players getting introduced to the game, John and Lily Ann felt the time was right to bring to the game and gin rummy tournaments a new era of excellence. The World Series of Gin Rummy™ has been approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to Lily Ann and John Hainline.

2. What are your key products and services? What are the benefits?
 
We launched the live Gin Rummy Tournaments. The format for the tournaments allows participants to compete in partnership and singles events. A player can choose either or both venues depending on their preference. There also are clear directions for making the finals. In the partnership tournament, a team must win 4 or 5 games to be in the finals. For the Singles Tournament, a person must win 10 out of the 16 games to make the finals.
 
3. Why do customers love Gin Rummy? Can you share a customer story?
 
Most gin rummy players have been playing for years and starting when they were quite young. The game was a favorite being played around the kitchen table with parents and grandparents. Gin Rummy is very popular in that it requires some skill and knowledge. According to Steve Cloud, a gin rummy player, unlike poker, a hand of gin can start out with 10 unrelated cards and in the course of drawing and discarding, one can manage to make a gin hand. The beauty lies in the strategy.

4. What are the values that drive your business forward?

Step 1: Set Your Social Media Objectives and Goals
    What does the business want to gain from social media marketing initiatives? What is the key objective? Is it to increase qualified leads, deliver better customer service, get more business, create a great brand, obtain better reviews or gain more trust? If the business is starting out on social media, it will take a lot of effort and time to undertake multiple objectives simultaneously. Ask the marketing manager or owner what their immediate goals are! Be very specific about the social media marketing objectives.

Step 2: Determine your social media channels, and Create a beautiful profile or two
     It's easy to fall in the trap of creating profiles on multiple social media channels, and then forgetting about them. Just having a profile is like an empty store front. No customer would dare go there. Social media is all about engagement. Each social media channel takes at least 4 to 6 hours of management every week. A business needs to be judicious of the time and resources, and start out with one or two social media channels. Creating a beautiful profile that exemplifies the business and gets customers excited is the first step.

Step 3: Listen and Learn from your Customers, Partners and Industry Experts
     Ask this question: "Who are our customers and what can we learn from what they are saying and doing?" Most of the business' customers would already be using social media. It's easy to find these customers (search for them), and see what's going on. The business also needs to think about "Who are the customers' customers?" In short, a business must take the time to learn about the customers' needs, and understand the customers' perceptions. The business should also learn how the partners are using social media, what the experts are saying and the industry trends.

Step 4: Make New Connections with Customers
     It's time to connect! Once the business has determined who the customers, prospects, partners and experts are, it should begin connecting with them. Connect slowly! It may not make sense to connect with competing customers at the same time. It's best to follow a few customers, and engage well with them. Are more connections better? Just connecting with many users without real engagement does not yield promising results. Do not get caught up in the game of buying new followers or fans for the social channels - most of the paid connections are inactive users and the business will not materially benefit from them. Quality of connections matter a lot, not the quantity.

Step 5: Promote your Customers, Ask Customers for Feedback, and Provide Answers to Questions 
     Once a business begins listening and following the customers, the managers should share what their customers are saying. Promote the customers' updates. Respond to customers' messages. Get feedback about the products and services from the customers. Ask questions from customers about their updates and begin a conversation. Whenever possible, answer the customers' questions immediately and frequently. Engage with the customers! The more a business engages with their customers and prospects online, the better the ROI.

Step 6: Share relevant information. What would inspire and excite your Customers?
     Ask this question: "What do your customers want to learn from you?" Are customers seeing and treating the business as the subject matter or industry expert? Does the business have something interesting, inspiring and useful to share that will get them excited? Customers do not have the time to check your business updates, stories, product briefs and services daily. Customers have their own businesses to run. Customers want something that can help them do better business, and the job of social media managers is to provide this information. This is where the rubber meets the road.

Step 7: Analyze and Repeat
     Did the business realize the aforementioned social media goals? If the business followed through on the six success steps above, it would achieve most of the said objectives. How does one achieve all the goals? It's quite simple: Do more of what's working. Correct what's not. Be nimble! Social media is a fast-changing paradigm. It pays to be creative, and if a business has to start all over again, that's fine! The best barometer for success: Are the customers engaged?

1. What led you to start Madison Debt & Tax Relief? How is the progress?

I was in the mortgage business for many years.  I realized how many people were struggling with Tax matters.  After helping many people and businesses I decided to hire an attorney and pursue this as a business helping many people and businesses.

2. What are your products and services? What problems do they solve?

We do audit reviews.  We stop wage garnishments, bank levies, IRS house liens.  We also Amend returns, and file unfilled returns.  We help businesses through out the United States.

3. What is your favorite customer success story? 

We had a 48 year old man who owed the IRS $100K.   His life span was limited.  His ex-wife with whom he had a daughter with owed half that debt.  She was not aware that he had not been paying his taxes.  He did not want to die leaving her in debt with a child.  We were able to get an innocent spouse petition after long hard negotiating and she is now debt free.
