Business Networking is not a periodic activity but a daily activity. Meet Dan Koven, Health Insurance Entrepreneur

Meet Dan Koven, Small Business Health Insurance Entrepreneur

Meet Dan Koven, persistent Orange County Entrepreneur focused on Health Insurance for Small Business and Families

How did you get started?
Allan Koven CLU, my father and founder started Koven Insurance over 35 years ago in Anaheim. I joined the business 5 years ago after selling an internet company I was a co-owner of based in Newport Beach. We’ve been a true “family-based” business since inception and intend to keep it that way. Community, service and personal connection is very important to us. We tell people that it doesn’t cost a penny more to use an experienced agent. That’s a value added fact.

How is your business doing?
With Obamacare’s inception becoming law in a matter of mere months, we’re working hard as advisors to understand every aspect of this landmark health insurance legislation reform. It’s been a roller coaster of a year so far but we’re confident that with client education and patience and our ability to help navigate these tricky waters, it will, eventually, be seamless.

What gets you going?
An advisor of any professional field has an important obligation to their clients. They need to listen closely instead of talking. They need to digest information and offer practical solutions. What gets me going? Waking up each morning knowing I’m helping someone through a confusing and often complex process. That feels good. It feels right.

What are your products or services, and key benefits?
We specialize in individual/family and small business (under 50 lives) health insurance, but at our company we write a lot of life insurance, both permanent and temporary, for families as well.  We also offer dental, vision and other insurance lines as well as annuities, disability and medicare.

Who are your customers? Can you share a brief story?
Our clients are business owners, homemakers, students, professionals, the guy working at Subway and everyone in between who understands how important having insurance is.

What are your 2013-2014 goals?
We really enjoy working with small group business owners. There’s bound to be plethora of questions pertaining to employee benefits over the next year and we are poised to answer every single one of them. The law is complicated. We are certified to market within the Covered California exchange and licensed to market “off the exchange”.

Can you share some tips with the community?
Persistence, honesty and diligence is crucial when dealing with something as personal as insurance. Running a business such as this requires extraordinary communication skills and follow through. Rapport is imperative, of course.

Five social media tips to attract new customers

clock April 20, 2013 06:03 by author Ogoing Team

Five tips to attract new customers using social media marketing and branding:

Attract Customers with Social Media on oGoing

1. Create Beautiful Profile. Edit your Social Network Profile, update your correct company information, and add your beautiful company logo (go to Settings after you login). If you are also on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and YouTube, connect these to your profiles. The more complete a profile, the better visibility it gets on Google, Yahoo and Bing and other search engines, resulting in higher SEO ranking. Don't forget to confirm your account email to get full access, receive notifications, and greater exposure.

2. Get Great Recommendations. Request your existing clients to provide you a 5 star review (tell them to go to your profile or brand page and click on Recommend - e.g. http://ogoing.com/sanjaydalal ). Great recommendations go a long way towards establishing credibility and trust. Remember, your prospects are always checking your online ratings and when they see those five stars next to your profile, they are more confident and ready to do business with you.

So ask your best clients to recommend today.

3. Share What's going on?
Share updates about what's going on - at least once a week (and if you are on Twitter or Google+, daily!). Talk about your business, best practices, tips, industry articles, and news which are relevant for your clients. Post lots of photos, images and videos. Great visuals are more engaging. Ask questions and get feedback from clients. Post upcoming events. Create monthly offers. Provide a free download. The more updates you share, the more exposure and visibility you create online which generates free traffic.

4. Build Quality Connections.
Connect with member businesses, customers, prospects and influencers. Go to Search or Find Business and search for members based on industry / location / name / certification / activity, and after you find them, Follow them. When you follow members, they are notified about your business, and many would connect back with you. Learn more about their businesses. Find out what their needs are. Spend some time on their website. Once you follow them, you can keep up with what they are sharing.

5. Engage with Customers.
Promote members who connect with you by sharing their profile, mentioning them, asking questions, sending direct message, and responding to their conversations. The more you engage with members, the more they warm up to do business with you.

When was the last time you liked, shared, commented or replied to a member's update? Everyone loves interaction. Next time you login, don't forget to "high five" a member's update.

Remember... social media is not about promoting yourself. It's about engaging with your connections, building trust, sharing good information, growing your online relationships, and then transforming your relationships into warm leads. It's not a one shot approach.

Have you joined oGoing yet, nation's fastest growing small business social networking platform for promoting your business, getting more exposure, building online visibility, increasing website traffic, improving SEO ranking, making new connections and generating warm leads? Gin Rummy Association : Live Gin Rummy Tournaments

clock December 11, 2012 06:51 by author Ogoing Team

Gin Rummy Association

How do you bring back a classic and make it better?

Gin Rummy, or simply gin, is a multi player card game created in 1909 by Elwood T. Baker and his son C. Graham Baker. Gin was a wildly popular game in the U.S., and is now coming back! Key reason for the revival has to do with the vision and hard work of John Hainline, and his wife and partner Lily Ann. John is considered as one of the best Gin Rummy players of all time! Gin Rummy Association is an Ogoing Pro member small business! I had the opportunity to interview John and Lily Ann about their amazing journey together:

1. What led you to start Gin Rummy Association? How is the progress?

Prior to starting the Gin Rummy Association, John played in most all of the Gin Rummy Tournaments across the country. In 1999 he gave an interview that was published in the Cigar Aficionado: The Gin Mill | Good Life Guide | Cigar Aficionado  Winner of more than 20 tournaments, and consistently in the top 10 of most events. John, with his wife and partner Lily Ann, decided to dedicate themselves to creating a new level of tournament excellence. Now with gin rummy being played on the Internet, and more and more players getting introduced to the game, John and Lily Ann felt the time was right to bring to the game and gin rummy tournaments a new era of excellence. The World Series of Gin Rummy™ has been approved by the United States Patent and Trademark Office to Lily Ann and John Hainline.

2. What are your key products and services? What are the benefits?

We launched the live Gin Rummy Tournaments. The format for the tournaments allows participants to compete in partnership and singles events. A player can choose either or both venues depending on their preference. There also are clear directions for making the finals. In the partnership tournament, a team must win 4 or 5 games to be in the finals. For the Singles Tournament, a person must win 10 out of the 16 games to make the finals.

3. Why do customers love Gin Rummy? Can you share a customer story?

Most gin rummy players have been playing for years and starting when they were quite young. The game was a favorite being played around the kitchen table with parents and grandparents. Gin Rummy is very popular in that it requires some skill and knowledge. According to Steve Cloud, a gin rummy player, unlike poker, a hand of gin can start out with 10 unrelated cards and in the course of drawing and discarding, one can manage to make a gin hand. The beauty lies in the strategy.

4. What are the values that drive your business forward?

John, with his wife and partner Lily Ann, decided to dedicate themselves to creating a new level of tournament excellence.

5. How do you define success within your company?

Success is measured by the number of Gin Rummy tournaments continuing to be held in Las Vegas.

What three tips would you like to offer entrepreneurs and owners?
1. Be consistent with Procedures in running tournaments.
2. Listen to comments from members of the Association.
3. Always consider what the majority of participants request.

Using Social Networking for Marketing Your Small Business

clock May 13, 2012 13:12 by author Ogoing Team

By now, you must be familiar with the many benefits of online social networking for small business marketing. But if this is your first time to venture into the world of social media marketing, here are some suggestions to effectively harness social networking sites to build your brand and promote your business.

  1. Use social networking sites to familiarize people with your area of expertise and create interest in your business. For example, if you are starting a software company, you can post videos on your Facebook wall offering tips and troubleshooting advice on commonly-encountered PC problems.
  2. Build relationships with your customers by maintaining conversations with them. One of the most essential social networking for business marketing techniques is engaging with your customers, and one of the ways you can do that is by using your Facebook wall or Twitter account to solicit feedback from them about your products or customer service, and then responding promptly and directly to any concerns that may be raised.
  3. Use social media to target a specific customer base. Sites such as Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn allow you to create ads that are targeted to particular user groups, i.e. college students or business professionals, based on their profiles. You can use this social networking for small business strategy to boost sales by promoting your services to people who are genuinely interested in availing of them.
  4. Use social networking sites to run promotions that will not only get new customers to sample your products but also reward loyal customers by giving them discounts. For example, you can use your Facebook Fan page to offer printable coupons that can be redeemed for discounts or Tweet your followers about an upcoming sale.
  5. Use your Facebook and Google+ pages to make customers more connected to the company by posting greetings and company updates directly from you. Customers will appreciate hearing from you about what the company is doing to improve its products as well as the latest updates on its activities.

If you have not yet established a presence in a social networking site, why not start by signing up for an account with oGoing? oGoing is an easy-to-use social networking site that allows you to build a unique online profile for your small business, as well as establish links, not only with your customers but also with employees, colleagues and other oGoing community members. And if you already have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can easily incorporate your oGoing account into your overall social networking for business strategy since oGoing fully integrates with these sites. oGoing promotes your products and services for free, finds new customers and accelerates online sales. Small Business Social Media and Social Networking

Boost your small business on Ogoing small business social network
If you own, manage or promote your small business, have you joined a social network or two? What results have you seen from joining a social network for your business? Simply put, has it been worth your while? We are talking about social networks which are external for your small business.

There are many social networks to consider today of entrepreneurs! What network works best for your company? What criteria would you use, as you evaluate social networking that helps you boost your business?

Here are the top three reasons why you should get started on a social network or two for your business:

1. Get more prospects and customers
- Ask yourself, why your small business does any marketing at all? What is the primary reason for having a company website? Where do you find your prospects? How do you convert your prospects into real customers? A social network must ultimately result in driving more leads for your business. Although the lead funnel may not happen overnight, it must happen within weeks to months. There is a common misconception that when a business has more followers or fans, it will drive more sales. The quality of contacts matter the most! Your business may have thousands of followers, but very few may be interested in buying anything. How would you drive quality leads? Social Networking is not a get rich quick game. Rather, it takes time and patience to build a real following (unless you are an established brand or celebrity such as Coke or Lady Gaga). Be real on a social network! Share expert information and insights. Provide free stuff, discounts, coupons or loyalty points. Keep your readers intrigued with quality information. The more you stay true, the more prospects and customers you will garner, eventually!

2. Increase customer loyalty
- This by far has been the biggest claim to fame for small business social networking. A social network brings you closer to your customers and gets them engaged. In some cases, your customers may get too close! On the one hand, your business can cleverly leverage social networks to provide better customer service, get proactive customer feedback, obtain recommendations, and even get customers to share great ideas. However, if you open yourself for customer service, get ready to hear an earful. Customers won't shy away from sharing their negative experiences over and over again publicly. Hear them out! Be a great listener. Apologize. And follow through by providing excellent customer service. Turn that negative customer experience into a positive one! An irate customer who gets great customer service can become a happy and loyal customer for life. Icing on the cake: Customers see that you care!

Now that your small business has opened this new social network channel for providing transparent customer service, stage two will include asking these customers for feedback on everything... for instance, a new marketing campaign and asking them to vote for the one they really like, or a new product feature or enhancement and hearing their thoughts. The loyal customers would be more than happy to share favorable recommendations and testimonials. The unhappy customers will likewise share negative views. Be ready for both! The goal for your local business is to get more positive reviews; at least four stars or better. Better the reviews and ratings, better the potential of attracting new prospects. Finally, receptive customers will likely share new ideas about your brand, current products, competition, and trends. Social Networks can act as great vehicles for increasing customer loyalty, and extracting maximum value from your customers.

3. Become The brand
- A social network is quite possibly the biggest brand equalizer. It sure is great to have the brand and following of a Nike or Starbucks; but, by the same token, a greater brand means even greater scrutiny. You are always under the microscope of corporate social responsibility, and what you think, say and do is analyzed 24/7 by the press, customers, competition and everyone at large. Say or do one bad thing, and your brand gets a huge hit! And in most cases, an irreparable one. On the other hand, if you are a small, niche brand, the social network can do wonders for your business! You can become the most relevant brand for your market by doing the things that matter most for your customers, partners, suppliers, and the community. How you become The Brand? By doing good business. By delivering quality service. By sharing profits. By helping good causes. By caring for your community. Each good action that you undertake adds to your brand value. These actions will transform your brand into the most powerful brand in the marketplace. It takes time to build that brand, and become the word-of-mouth brand that resonates with Kleenex, FedEx or WebEx. Sharing and Caring go hand in hand with Networking. Brand prominence can't happen without investing into planning, goal setting and executing, and staying the course. Hiccups will happen. However, if you follow the best practices of delighting your customers over and over again, you can establish a strong local brand presence, one that customers will remember and recommend.

What social network can do all of the above for your small business? LinkedIn is great for professionals, Twitter works for celebrities and big brands, Facebook is amazing for consumers and friends, Yelp is superb for reviews and retailers, Google Plus is great for getting that jump start, YouTube is tops for business videos and stories, Foursquare is great for checking in, Pinterest gives you an online pinboard, and the list goes on...

Social Media Marketing for Small Business

clock March 5, 2012 06:18 by author Ogoing Team

Social Media Marketing is an important aspect of running a business that should never be overlooked. A product should be hyped up in order for it to be visible to consumers and end users. Products in the market today that have benefited from outstanding marketing hypes usually tend to do better as opposed to products that have been released with little to no fanfare. For example, Apple and the new iPhone 4S and iPad 2 products that were announced in 2011. Both the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 are upgrades from their predecessors, the iPhone 4 and the iPad respectively. Although in terms of look and feel, the difference between the two sets of devices is not revolutionary (except of course the cool white iPhone 4S and the white iPad 2), because of the marketing hype generated by Apple, Steve Jobs launch presentation of the iPad 2, and timely online marketing through blogs and review sites, when the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 were released, they were selling like hotcakes.

Apple is a huge company, and its marketing and hype generating machinery is a behemoth compared to what most small and medium sized businesses have. So how do small businesses compete against large corporations? The answer: Through Internet marketing and social media marketing. The growth of social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and others has also leveled the playing field for small businesses. Social Networking for small business websites including Ogoing.com are capitalizing on this trend and have opened up a whole new platform for small businesses to succeed in this economy.

So why is social networking for small business or businesses important? And why should small businesses use social media marketing as a venue to market or promote their products or services. The scope and coverage of social media is far-reaching and it covers all demographics, in particular local markets. There is no shortage of people to market and promote a small business’ products to. And by the same token, there is no shortage of publicity and visibility for a product if it is featured on a relevant social network.

There have been a lot of good products that have gone the way of the dodo just because they weren’t marketed well. The competition nowadays isn’t about what features differentiate the product from others. Companies are now competing on ways to promote the product and to show off the product's strengths. Social networking for small business or business to business is important because it empowers small businesses to take a huge step forward in terms of marketing their products and services. Social networking for small business website including Ogoing.com is leading the charge in that area.
