Happy 69th Indian Independence Day

I am looking forward to celebrating the 69th India Independence Day of the world's largest democracy and one of the oldest civilizations, the amazing Bharat on August 15.

August 15 is a significant day for me because I am born in India, grew up in India until I was 18,  took great pride in singing the national anthem "Jana Gana Mana", and will always strive to be India's "unofficial" ambassador of the world.

August 15 is also an important day because my wife and I got married on August 15, 1993 in Orange County, USA. It wasn't happenstance though. It was a most auspicious, marriage day after consulting with the local pundits. We will be celebrating our 22nd Wedding Anniversary simultaneously!

I would like to share one more thing: I was born in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India on October 31, 1968. I am quite fortunate to share the same birthday as India's eminent freedom fighter and the Iron Man Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel! The story of Shri Sardar Patel is all-inspiring to me.

Our home is now in Irvine, Orange County, USA where my wife and I work extremely hard to make ends meet, aspire to create a bright future for our young children (our son's a rising junior at UT Austin - Hook 'Em Horns, and our daughter starts 10th grade at University High School - Go Trojans), and look forward to doing well spiritually, healthily and financially. I am a proud Indian American!

What has been the biggest gift that India gave me?

It is humility and non-violence, and my ability to stay humble, kind and giving no matter the circumstances. It is extremely hard to practice humility. But I do believe that with time, practice and experience, I can strive to become that simpler person; however, one with an indomitable will to change the world and make the world a better place.

Thank you Mummi, Puppa for giving me birth in India and raising me with great morals and convictions! Thank you India teachers for giving me the necessary education and grounding that prepared me for the future!

I would also like to take this opportunity and ask everyone who reads this post to contribute to Akshaya Patra - "the world’s largest (not-for-profit run) mid-day meal programme serving wholesome food to over 1.4 million children from 10,845 schools across 10 states in India."

Jai Hind!!
